"For those people who would
like to see the Philadelphia Mummers Parade on National TV"
(Disclaimer: Although we would be proud to be, The Mummers On
National TV campaign is not associated with any of the Philadelphia Mummers or TV broadcasting organizations.)
Welcome to the Mummers on
National TV Grassroots Campaign
While
growing up in South Jersey, New Years Day was a day of celebration
just as exciting as New Years Eve. The TV, on which we had the
luxury of 3 channels, was tuned to the channel that had the
privilege of broadcasting the Philadelphia New Years Day parade
staring The Mummers. Mom would make easy foods and throughout the
day we would watch for our friends and neighbors marching in the
parade.
The colorful
costumes and wonderful music, as well as the traditional 'strutting'
are what makes the parade unique. The subtitle of STRUT! The Movie
says it all, "One day a year, the working
people of Philadelphia rule!"
A parade like no other, part Mardi Gras, part burlesque and all
Philly, The Philadelphia New Years Day parade has been the number
one event on the first of January for over a 100 years.
The parade
starts at about 9:00AM, continues until early evening and is
televised locally from beginning to end.
